Artist statement
As an Afro-futurist, I use materials to assemble masquerade that honors and preserve Black American heritage. The intersection of Black and Indigenous cultures sparked my spirit to mask. Drawing inspiration from black historical archive of militant resilience and remarkable combat prowess. Finding refuge in the Mardi Gras Indians, Caribbean Carnival, Harlem Hellfighters, and Tennessee Rifles. The stories have influenced a purposeful placement of identity into the masquerade. Materials being sourced from personal life. Masking has allowed me to express myself comfortably to the world. In the duality of my Christ-like spirit and uncut punk rebellious grit.
By blending past and future technologies, the goal is to foster tools of liberation that unify Black people. My mission is to encourage active participation in the creation of our collective future.
